Antigonish Workshop, April 19

Written by Rob Swick
We drove through the aftermath of a late season snowstorm to get to Antigonish to do our second workshop.  A good part of the way there we were stuck behind a snowplow and arrived just 15 minutes before the talk.   As it turned out, most of the attendees were in the same situation and we had to wait to quarter past nine to get started.  Antigonish turned out to be a group with a LOT of questions.  Good questions, and it started right away which is always a positive. The best sessions are the ones where people get involved.

DSC_0860In this workshop we modified our challenged to the delegates to make home pages for their businesses by giving them fictional scenarios and this worked really well. The Antigonish group did a great job at this.. creating home page promotional layouts for made up businesses like the Blueberry Grove B& B and Happy Clam Boat Tours.  They even had the sense to suggest that Captain Blowholes Lighthouse Inn change its name. BTW George, thanks for the name for that one.

Halifax Workshop, March 30

Written by Rob Swick

TIANS_20100330_03A great group in Halifax for our first tourism workshop! Thanks for being guinea p... I mean for coming out!

The workshop went off without too many hitches! We ran a little overtime but that was partly because of all the questions around some of the social media tactics – great ideas and feedback as well from people like Stephen Boudreau and Tammy White.

Social media REALLY is on every tourist operators mind. That was what we learned. And that having a dog as a mascot is a good idea. Cocoa dropped by for part of the session but seemed bored by the lack of food falling his way.

TIANS_20100330_04I’m sure everyone left with a brain full of new ideas. Tourism operator/owner Susan Nelson of the charming Inn on the Lake was one of the many who came with great questions and left with new ideas. Susan will also be joining us in May at the AIM Conference too – showing she’s a smart operator who knows a good opportunity when she see it (with a $100 discount available to anyone who comes to the workshop).

Thanks again to all who came out for the workshop – and especially for your appreciative and thoughtful feedback. We’re glad you learned a lot – and you helped future workshop delegates with your ideas!
